04/23/2007 - (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - Cha Seung Baek makes his season debut this evening when the Seattle Mariners open a brief two-game set with Texas at Rangers Ballpark at Arlington.
Baek, who will be starting in place of injured phenom Felix Hernandez, has been impressive over the course of his young career against Texas, going 3-0 against them with a miniscule 0.83 earned run average in three starts.
The 26-year-old right-hander started six games for the Mariners down the stretch last season and was 4-1 with a 3.67 ERA. For his career he is 6-5 with a 4.55 ERA in 13 games, 11 of which have been starts.
Seattle lost its sixth straight game on Sunday, as it dropped a 6-1 decision to the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim at Angel Stadium. Adrian Beltre homered and Raul Ibanez was 1-for-2 with two walks for the Mariners, who have lost seven of their last nine.
Jeff Weaver (0-3) exited after three full innings, giving up seven hits and three runs, striking out three and not walking a batter.
Texas, meanwhile, won the final two games of its three-game series with the Oakland Athletics, including a 4-3 win on Sunday. Hank Blalock went 3-for-4 and drove in the go-ahead run in the eighth to seal the win.
Blalock also scored a run and finished with two RBI, while Sammy Sosa knocked in a run for the Rangers, who have won two straight since dropping three in a row. Kenny Lofton recorded his 2,300th career hit, ending 2-for-3 with a run scored.
Willie Eyre (1-0) earned the win in 1 2/3 innings of relief of Robinson Tejeda, who pitched 6 1/3 innings, allowing three runs on nine hits with six strikeouts.
Akinori Otsuka recorded his second save of the season by getting two outs in the ninth. Eric Gagne started the ninth and left with one out with a hip injury.
Gagne, who almost had to leave Saturday's win with back spasms, will be re- evaluated today, but likely won't be available to pitch tonight.
Getting the call for Texas tonight will be veteran right-hander Kevin Millwood, who is 2-2 with a 4.91 ERA. Millwood was tagged with the loss in his last start on Wednesday against Chicago, as he allowed five runs and five hits in five innings.
Millwood is 6-3 lifetime against the Mariners with a 3.45 ERA in 10 games.
Seattle took two of three from the Rangers earlier in the season, but Texas is 37-23 in the series since the start of the 2004 campaign. The Mariners have also struggled in Arlington, where they have lost in 21 of their last 29 visits.

Many fans thought it was the best side in the nation by the end of last season. This year, the polls have built on Georgia's momentum and granted it the No. 1 preseason ranking, followed by Ohio State and USC. (The Associated Press has the Buckeyes at No. 2; USA Today took the Trojans.)
"To have people believing we have one of the best teams in the nation going into this thing, it's exciting for us," Bulldogs coach Mark Richt told the AP. "I don't think anything is guaranteed, but we certainly have put ourselves in position where at least the college football world thinks we're pretty good."
Georgia Bulldogs - 9.5 wins
There's no question they're good, but the Bulldogs have one of the toughest 12-game schedules in the nation, mostly because they play in the powerhouse Southeastern Conference. Away games at No. 15 Arizona State, No. 7 LSU and No. 10 Auburn loom large, with contests between the hedges versus No. 24 Alabama and No. 18 Tennessee as well as the World's Largest Cocktail Party in Jacksonville versus No.5 Florida.
Ohio State Buckeyes - 10 wins
Like the Bulldogs, the Buckeyes also have a number of tough road contests in 2008. After two scrimmages dressed up as real games versus Youngstown State and Ohio, it's off to face USC. Other tough away games include No.13 Wisconsin in October and No. 20 Illinois in November. Granted, it should be pretty easy sledding at the Horseshoe. In fact, the only ranked team that travels to Columbus is No. 22 Penn State, in October.
USC Trojans - 10.5 wins
A similarly light schedule awaits the Trojans of Southern California, which is why the oddsmakers' total is one win more and the over is currently commanding -150 odds. Pete Carroll's troops only play three ranked teams in 2008, and all of those games are at home. After what should be an easy trip to Virginia to start things off on Aug. 30, the Trojans get two weeks to prepare for Ohio State in Los Angeles. Their two other ranked opponents, No. 21 Oregon and No. 15 Arizona State, visit in consecutive weeks to start the month of October. After that, the competition eases up. Of course, this is the same highly-touted school that lost to Stanford in 2007 and Oregon State in 2006. And don't discount the fact that USC plays its biggest rivals, Notre Dame and UCLA, back-to-back to close out the regular season. On paper, the Trojans are far superior, but motivation will be high for the Irish and Bruins, especially if their historic foes are in national-title contention.
Odds to Win the Heisman Trophy
Tim Tebow, Florida - 7/2
He won it last year, so it's no surprise he's the favorite to do it again, making him just the second player to go back-to-back. Ohio State's Archie Griffin turned the trick in 1974 and 1975, and Tebow's coach, Urban Meyer, is pretty sure his star quarterback can match the Buckeyes legend.
"There has never been anyone quite like him," Meyer told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. "I am very lucky to be his coach."
Chris Wells, Ohio State - 5/1
The man they call "Beanie" was a star recruit out of high school, so it's not like nobody knew who the star tailback was before he rushed for 576 yards as a freshman in 2006 and 1,609 as a sophomore. But perhaps his finest moment came last year versus Michigan when he rumbled for 222 yards and two touchdowns in the Buckeyes' 14-3 victory over the hated Wolverines.
Knowshon Moreno, Georgia - 8/1
If the Bulldogs are to live up to expectations, they'll need a huge effort from their sophomore running back. This might be the last year of college ball for Moreno, who rushed for 1,334 yards and for 14 touchdowns as a freshman, while adding 253 receiving yards on 20 receptions, so expect big things for the man from Belford, N.J.

March Madness odds and printable March Madness brackets
With the field of 64/65 set, MySportsbook.com has the Florida Gators as the 4-1 favorite to successfully defend their National Championship. Men’s Division-1 College Basketball has not seen a team repeat as National Champions since Duke won back to back championships in ’91 & ‘92. After losing three out of four late in the season, the Gators are full of momentum as they won their last four games by an average of 18 points. Not surprisingly, right behind the Gators are the other three top seeds: Kansas 5-1, UNC 6-1, and Ohio State 7-1. Many consider Kansas to be the hottest team in the country, having won 11 straight. With Kansas, it is hard to ignore all of the early exits from the “dance” in recent years. With an impressive ACC Tournament, UNC ensured themselves the other top seed. UNC has about as much talent as any other team in the tournament but with a team that’s best players are primarily freshman and sophomores, could youth be a concern. Behind freshman sensation, Greg Oden, OSU will look to do what their football team failed to do just a few months earlier. OSU seems to have peeked at the right time, as they currently have a 17 game winning streak. Since the tournament field was expanded in 1985, there has never been an instance where all four #1 seeds advanced to the Final Four. It is obvious that each of the top seeds have the talent to make it through to Atlanta. But as everyone knows, when makes the NCAA Tournament so special are all of the spoilers and “Cinderella” stories that knock off the favorites on a daily basis.
