01/21/2007 - Los Angeles, CA (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - Arron Afflalo netted 22 points to lead third-ranked UCLA over No. 11 Arizona, 73-69, in Pac-10 action at the Pauley Pavilion.
Darren Collison scored 14 points, grabbed five rebounds and dished out seven assists for the Bruins (17-1, 6-1 Pac-10), who moved to 11-0 at home and won their fourth straight over Arizona. Michael Roll added 13 points in the win.
Ivan Radenovic had 21 points and eight rebounds for the Wildcats (13-5, 4-4), who have dropped three in a row. Marcus Williams and Mustafa Shakur scored 11 points each in defeat. Williams also had 11 boards.
A small 6-0 burst by Arizona in the second half, capped on a three-pointer by Williams, pulled the Wildcats within two at 39-37, but the Bruins went on to net eight of the game's next 10 points. Six of those points came from Roll, who knocked down a pair of treys and his second gave UCLA a 47-39 advantage with 15:26 on the clock.
Five straight points by the Bruins upped their lead to 60-50 with 6:44 on the clock. The Wildcats twice got to within six, but six points in a row for the Bruins late pushed their edge to 68-56.
Shakur, however, followed with a layup to get within 10, and a dunk by Chase Budinger made it a 68-60 contest. Arizona then started fouling the Bruins, and both Collison and Afflalo missed free throw attempts.
That allowed Arizona to get within three on two free throws by Shakur and a three-point play by Jawann McClellan with 27 ticks to go. However, the Wildcats never got closer.
Ahead by a point in the first, the Wildcats grabbed control with a 7-0 run. McClellan started the burst with two from the line, while Daniel Dillon followed with a pair of free throws and a three-pointer that moved Arizona's lead to 25-17 with 6:22 remaining in the first half.
The Bruins, though, answered with a 13-0 run to go ahead 30-25. Josh Shipp started the burst with a layup and Russell Westbrook put UCLA ahead 26-25 on a jumper with 3:47 remaining. The Bruins closed out the run with four straight free throws.
UCLA used that momentum to carry a 35-29 edge into the break.
Game Notes
Budinger ended with 10 points and eight rebounds...Shipp had nine in the win and Alfred Aboya added 11 rebounds...UCLA shot 49 percent from the floor to Arizona's 39 percent...The Wildcats fell to 2-4 on the road...The Bruins lead the all-time series 42-31.

Oddsmakers have released the odds for the 2009 AP NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year Award and Seattle Seahawks linebacker Aaron Curry has been made the opening favorite.
Seattle took Curry with the fourth overall pick in April's NFL draft and plan on inserting him into its starting lineup right away. The Hawks traded linebacker Julian Peterson in the offseason, so Curry is expected to have a significant role in Seattle's defense next year and that's one of the primary reasons he is the favorite to win the NFL ROY Award.
Oddsmakers from online sportsbook MySportsbook.com have made Curry a 5/1 favorite to win this year's NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year Award. Given that he was the best defensive prospect in this year's draft and how he'll have plenty of opportunities to make plays in '09, Curry offers a ton of value at 5/1.
Another thing working for Curry is the position he plays. A linebacker has won the defensive ROY award six straight times and eight of the last nine years. Jerod Mayo, Patrick Willis, DeMeco Ryans, Shawne Merriman, Jonathan Vilma, Terrell Suggs, Kendrell Bell and Brian Urlacher were the most recent linebackers to take home the award.
Following Curry at 5/1 are Tyson Jackson (Chiefs) at 7/1, James Laurinaitas (Rams) at 8/1, Brian Orakpo (Redskins) at 10/1, Rey Maualuga (Bengals) at 10/1 and Jerry Peria (Falcons) at 10/1.
All the players mentioned above are expected to start for their respective teams, but Jackson and Peria are going to have a tough time being recognized on a national level given they're both defensive linemen. D-linemen rarely put up the numbers that it takes to win an individual award like the ROY.
A couple of players with some value are Clay Matthews (Packers) at 12/1 and Larry English (Chargers) at 15/1. Matthews is expected to start at outside linebacker in Green Bay's new 3-4 defense and could rack up a ton of tackles. English, who was an impressive player at Northern Illinois, is expected to be a situational pass rusher for the Chargers and could rack up a ton of sacks.
