Rangers' Padilla to miss start

06/05/2007 - Arlington, TX (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - Texas Rangers pitcher Vicente Padilla has been scratched from Tuesday's start against the Detroit Tigers because of an irritated right triceps.

John Rheinecker, who was activated off the 60-day disabled list earlier on Tuesday, will take Padilla's place on the mound. Rheinecker had been on the DL since the start of the season due to a strained back.

Padilla is 2-8 with a 6.45 earned-run average in 12 starts this season. He has lost four of his last five starts.

Texas also activated utilityman Jerry Hairston Jr. from the 15-day disabled list, optioned outfielder Nelson Cruz to Triple-A Oklahoma and designated utilityman Matt Kata for assignment.

Hairston played in 23 games for the Rangers, hitting .234 with one home run and three RBI before going on the disabled list on May 17 due to a pinched nerve in his neck.

Cruz hit .188 in 43 games with three homers and 12 RBI. Kata had a .131 average with two homers and six RBI in 31 games.
