New York, NY (Sports Network) - Major League Baseball suspended Detroit Tigers manager Jim Leyland three games for inappropriate conduct during the September 15th and 16th contests against the Texas Rangers. Leyland was also fined an undisclosed amount and will begin the suspension Friday in the series opener at Cleveland. The Tigers have underachieved to a 71-80 record this season and entered play Thursday 13 games behind the White Sox for the top spot in the AL Central.

Arlington, TX (Sports Network) - Texas Rangers shortstop Michael Young left Wednesday's 17-4 loss to the Detroit Tigers after aggravating a fracture in his right ring finger. Young has been playing the last few weeks with a fracture in the finger and also has a cyst on his right wrist. Young was 0-for-2 before leaving and Ramon Vazquez replaced him in the field. Vazquez ended 0-for-3 with a strikeout. For the season, Young is batting .276 with 12 homers and 76 RBI in 148 games.

Arlington, TX (Sports Network) - The Detroit Tigers have decided to shut down pitcher Kenny Rogers for the rest of the season. Rogers gave up seven runs in 4 2/3 innings in the second game of a doubleheader with the White Sox on Sunday. After the loss, the lefty met with manager Jim Leyland and it was there that the decision was made. After throwing a pitch to Magglio Ordonez, just his seventh delivery of the game, McCarthy began shaking his hand.
